Key Terms, Explained Simply

- Asynchronous
- Course delivery with no scheduled class times. Coursework is completed on your schedule against established deadlines.
- Brightspace
- NSCC's online learning platform where you access course materials, assignments, grades, and discussions.
- Convocation
- The formal graduation ceremony where credentials are conferred. eCampus learners are welcome at the in-person ceremony or can attend by livestream.
- Credential
- The official certificate, diploma, or degree awarded upon program completion.
- eCampus
- NSCC's fully online learning campus, delivering programs and supports to learners studying remotely.
- NSCC
- Nova Scotia Community College. A provincial post-secondary institution with campuses across Nova Scotia plus eCampus.
- Outlook
- Microsoft's email client. Your NSCC email is delivered through Outlook.
- Pulse
- Brightspace's companion mobile app. Real-time push notifications for assignment due dates, grades, and announcements.
- School (of Study)
- An academic grouping of related programs. eCampus organizes its 16 programs into four Schools.
- Synchronous
- Course delivery with scheduled, live virtual classes. Attendance is expected.
- Teams
- Microsoft Teams — used for live virtual classes and the eCampus Community space.
- Treaty People
- A recognition that all those who live in Mi’kma’ki are beneficiaries of the Peace and Friendship Treaties between the Mi’kmaq Nation and the Crown.
